Kariya Park

Good morning Mississauga,

May looks like it’ll be off to a great start, with a huge card expo, a small pottery market that could help you get ahead on Mother’s Day, and Annie’s final weekend at Meadowvale Theatre.

There are also a few exciting music picks, a Port Credit brunch spot to book before the weekend fills up, and some useful local updates to watch out for.

Let’s get into it!

This Week’s Local Feature

Philip Kells

Philip Kells, Keller Williams Edge Realty

Buying well takes more than just scrolling listings.

A good home search is not about seeing more places. It's about finding the right one.

There are a lot of homes online. The hard part is finding one that truly fits the way you live.

That's where Philip comes in. Philip is very hands-on with buyers. He takes time to listen, works hard, and helps you stay focused on homes that fit your actual needs, not just what happens to be on the market.

That means more clarity, less stress, and a better shot at finding the right home for you.

Top Picks This Week

Pottery Spring Market

Colourful handmade mugs and heart-shaped ceramic dishes from The Pottery Hut.

📅 Saturday, May 2 | 📍 The Pottery Hut

A boutique Saturday market with lots of interesting handmade pottery pieces to browse.

This is a good one if you liked last week’s craft show but want something more focused. Drop in, look around, and maybe get ahead on a Mother’s Day gift before the rush. Make sure to sign up now because ticket sales end soon.

Sport Card Expo

📅 Thursday, April 30 to Sunday, May 3 | 📍 The International Centre

This is one of the biggest collector events of the year.

The Sport Card & Memorabilia Expo brings cards, collectibles, Pokémon, sports memorabilia, autograph guests, and hundreds of booths into The International Centre for four days.

If you collected cards as a kid, still chase rare pulls, or just want a browse-heavy indoor plan, this is a great pick this weekend.

Annie

📅 Until Sunday, May 3 | 📍 Meadowvale Theatre

It’s the final weekend for Annie in Mississauga.

This is the classic family musical with the songs, the big-hearted story, and plenty of nostalgia to go around. If you want a theatre plan without driving downtown, this is an easy pick.

Tickets start at $35 for adults and $32 for seniors and students, plus fees.

Quick Hits

Jeremy Dutcher with Mississauga Festival Choir and MSO

📅 Saturday, May 2 | 📍 Living Arts Centre

A strong Saturday night music pick. Jeremy Dutcher, a Polaris and Juno-winning Indigenous vocalist, joins the Mississauga Festival Choir and Mississauga Symphony Orchestra for a concert built around Wolastoqiyik music and works by Indigenous composers.

This is one of the more special concert options in the city this week.

Ladom Ensemble

📅 Sunday, May 3 | 📍 Living Arts Centre

Ladom Ensemble is a four-person mini-orchestra with piano, cello, accordion, and percussion.

Their music pulls from classical, klezmer, rock, tango, jazz, East Coast traditional, and Persian influences, then blends it into something distinctly Canadian.

Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet

📅 Sunday, May 10 | 📍 BraeBen Golf Course and LIVE Restaurant

Mother’s Day is next weekend, and the better brunch times usually go first.

The City is running buffet brunch seatings at BraeBen Golf Course and LIVE Restaurant inside the Living Arts Centre. If you’re trying to make a simple plan for mom without scrambling next week, book now.

Denise Pisani, Mortgage In The City

Denise Pisani

Mortgage up this year?

Don’t wait for the bank’s letter.

The bank’s renewal offer is not your only choice.

Denise Pisani says to start checking your renewal options about 5 months before your mortgage is due.

That gives you time to hold a rate when possible, compare other options, and see if your bank’s offer is really fair.

A second look often costs nothing out of pocket.

A bad renewal can cost you for years.

With over 25 years of mortgage experience, Denise helps Mississauga homeowners understand their options before they sign.

Don’t renew blind.

Easy Plan This Week

Benares and Brueckner Gardens

Start at Benares Historic House in Clarkson.

It’s a 1857 heritage home with guided tours on the hour from noon to 3 p.m., and walk-ins are welcome. You get the old house, the grounds, the gallery, and a look at Mississauga before it became the city people know now.

Then head down to Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens by the lake. It’s one of Canada’s largest public rhododendron gardens, and the best flower displays usually begin in May.

This Week’s Best Eats

Restaurant of the Week

Huevos Gourmet

Huevos rancheros with sunny side up eggs, green and red salsa, beans, guacamole, and a toasted baguette

📍 241 Lakeshore Rd E, Port Credit

Not every brunch spot is worth booking ahead.
Huevos Gourmet absolutely is.

Carlos and Nick built it from the flavours they grew up with in Guadalajara, Mexico.

You taste that in the first bite of the huevos rancheros, the house specialty, with warm tortillas and bold Mexican flavours. It’s the kind of brunch that makes the whole weekend feel like a getaway.

Then come the chipotle chilaquiles and Mexican Benedict, finished with made-in-house Hollandaise, a nod to Nick’s mother’s French roots.

And don’t forget to save room for the churros!

One more reason to keep Huevos Gourmet on your family’s radar: for a limited time, high school and university students get 20% off weekday breakfast and lunch with a valid student card.

Reserve your table before the weekend fills up.

Masrawy Egyptian Kitchen

📍 2275 Britannia Rd W

For something filling and different, Masrawy is a strong west-end pick.

Start with koshari, an Egyptian comfort dish made with rice, lentils, pasta, tomato sauce, and crispy onions. Then look at the macarona béchamel, Egyptian kofta, hawawshi, or a mixed grill if you’re ordering for the table.

This is a good one when you want a casual meal with big portions and dishes you won’t find everywhere.

Kamen Ramen

📍 720 Burnhamthorpe Rd W

Kamen is built for a proper ramen night.

The move here is a hot bowl of tonkotsu, shoyu, miso, or one of their signature fire-flavoured ramen options. They also do handmade noodles and from-scratch broths, which gives the bowls more depth than a quick noodle stop.

Good for a rainy night, a casual dinner, or a warm bowl before heading home.

Hazel McCallion LRT construction could wrap in 2028

The Hazel McCallion LRT may finally have a clearer timeline.

Global News reports that Metrolinx is now working toward finishing construction on the main 18-kilometre line by spring 2028. That does not mean trains will start carrying passengers right away, however. After construction, the line still needs testing, system checks, and a trial run before it opens.

For anyone tired of Hurontario construction, there’s still a long wait. But at least the timeline is starting to look more real.

Watch for fake QR codes on parking machines

The City is warning residents about fraudulent QR code stickers that were placed on parking machines in Downtown Mississauga.

Always remember: Mississauga parking machines do not use QR codes for payment.

Use the instructions on the machine screen or official City signage. If you see a QR code sticker on a parking machine, don’t scan it. Call 311 instead.

Free Youth Weeks are running now

Mississauga Youth Weeks runs until May 8, with free activities for youth and young adults ages 12 to 24 at community centres and libraries.

There are sports, game nights, arts and crafts, karaoke, career workshops, and other drop-in or registered activities across the city.

Registration for the Sauga Summer Pass also opens May 4. The pass gives youth ages 12 to 16 free MiWay rides and public fun swims during the summer, with free fitness centre access for ages 14 to 16 at participating locations with parental consent.

A new Port Credit marina is back in the conversation

Mississauga is still pushing the planned Port Credit marina as a major priority.

The project could cost around $75 million and would be part of the bigger plan to turn the harbour area into a true waterfront destination for residents, boaters, and visitors.

It’s not something opening tomorrow, but it matters if you’re keeping an eye on where Port Credit is heading over the next few years.
